Friend Zone is one of the most dreaded places for anyone who thought they had a chance at a relationship but the two sexes approach the zone much differently.
For women, it’s a place they can put the guy who’s been coming on to them and keep him at bay. It’s like keeping a pet in a cage. They can’t do too much damage unless you open the cage but you can still see them, maybe pet them, maybe feed them and let them know that their existence is recognized and after all, isn’t that what most people need and want anyway? For the girls, this seems like a safe place to keep the guy friend so they don’t have to worry about uncomfortable advances or drunken confessions that make them feel like crap for not taking their kindness seriously.
The women’s friend zone is not where a guy wants to end up if he initiated the friendship with more intention than just being the go-to when they need a male opinion but most guys (who have respect) don’t mind and won’t argue their place in the Friend Zone. They’ll go with the flow, move on to other possible dates and look out of the cage from time to time to see if the woman who put them there will open the latch or not. All in all, the guy just gets comfortable.
Now, the men have a friend zone too but it’s not really talked about much because it’s not as flowery as the women’s friend zone. The men’s friend zone is more like a prison’s “solitary confinement” room. The guy is still your “friend” because he knows he doesn’t need to be a jerk and he doesn’t want to hurt your feelings. He also wants to keep the option open until he no longer needs options. When a guy friend zones a girl she no longer becomes a priority, at all. Text messages get avoided, communication dissipates but he will get back to her at his convenience. Chances are, the guy that friend zones a girl, will stop texting her first. He won’t be leaving flirty messages or funny quips to make her laugh anymore. Their socialization will be limited to in person, face-to-face interaction because when a guy puts you in friend zone it’s “outta sight..outta mind.”
